Enhance Geometry With Calculators

My students need 30 classroom calculators with advanced functions and algebraic entry capabilities.

My geometry class is full of students with great potential when given opportunities. The students in my class range from sophomores to seniors most of whom understand the importance of post secondary education. Our school is a public high school and is located in a high need rural community. Most of my students will be looking toward scholarships and grants to be able to attend college. They have a difficult time being able to purchase even simple classroom supplies such as paper and pencils.

Geometry can be taught in many different ways. The more technology can be utilized, the more real the subject can become for the students. My students are also preparing to take the ACT for the first time. Calculators are an absolute must for both my class and the ACT. While graphing calculators are great and have many capabilities, I feel that an advanced scientific calculator will be more user friendly and therefore a better choice for my students. I have three classes of thirty students with only ten students who have been able to supply their own calculator. I do not want the rest of my students to be at a disadvantage in geometry or on the ACT.

A classroom set of the same calculator will give me the ability to teach my students how to perform calculations using technology. I will be able to lend these calculators to students who are preparing for college by taking the ACT.
