My students need various games to engage with during our mega-recess when we have indoor recesses such as Connect Four, Battleship, and Apples to Apples.
"I'm bored! I want to go outside! It isn't THAT cold!" Weather is every changing in Wisconsin, and our students need to stay engaged when indoor recess is necessary.
I teach a bilingual classroom in an urban school district.
My students are an energetic group of Spanish-dominant students that spend half of the day learning in Spanish and half of the day learning in English. We are in a school that has three different learning strands: Dual Language Immersion, English only and Bilingual Education. We serve a very diverse population with over 60 percent of students living in poverty; almost all of the students in my class make up part of that 60 percent. We are also unique in that minority cultures make up the majority of our school population.
My Project
The 5th grade team needs additional fun and engaging games that will allow them to enjoy indoor recess during the long, cold days of winter and rainy days of spring. These games are will be available to the entire grade level to play when they are stuck inside and itching to have fun on their break time.
These donations will improve our classroom because they will decrease behavior problems during indoor recess.
Currently, kids are bored and there are no activities that can keep them engaged long enough during this time. By having these games, students will be able to play cooperatively with their friends when they are stuck inside. Students requested these games when we solicited input and they are excited to have something to do during this time.
