Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is full of children who love to build, explore, and create items using critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration in their Makerspace and Stop Motion stations. With these stations, come a lot of arts & crafts and building supplies that are very difficult to organize.
My first grade class consists of diverse learners, in a Title I school, who come to school each day ready to be challenged and work hard.
I want to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity within the 4 walls of my classroom. I also want to provide my students with the opportunity to share their learning with others outside the 4 walls of our classroom. Through the use of a Makerspace and Stop Motion videos, students will explore and create with an authentic purpose. The best form of learning is by DOING.
My Project
Students will use these storage carts to assist them in organizing their arts and crafts, Makerspace, and Stop Motion video supplies. These supplies are used during reading and writing centers where students create videos and projects to support a piece of writing they have created, or to demonstrate understanding of a story or text they have read. With this type of learning comes many odds and ends of various materials that accumulate quickly. I am empowering students through art, using Stop Motion videos and Makerspace projects, and challenging my students to not only create amazing projects but also amazing experiences. This also creates challenges for them when it comes to organizing their projects, as they are in progress. With these drawer systems, students can store their unfinished projects, as well as the necessary materials until they are able to complete them.
