"Music is the expression of the movement of the waters, the play of curves described by changing breezes." ~ Claude Debussy. My students love music! My students love to play and create through movement. Cardio drumming is an incredible connection between the two. A way to connect body and mind.
My 500 students LOVE music!
They sing, dance, create and compose with ease. They do not have resources to make opportunities for these things to happen all the time. Our school community truly values the arts and so do our families. A large portion of our kids come from low or no income families. They can still make music! They can still be active and fit. This donation will create a great connection between physical education and arts for my students. I want to provide an opportunity for my students to connect their music minds to their naturally kinesthetic tendencies. By "Empowering Students Through Art" an opportunity to do cardio drumming will incorporate math, music, cooperation and movement to enhance student learning.
My Project
My students will be able to use these stability balls in general music class to open their creativity through movement.. They will be able to bring to life the mathematical and cultural connections to music that we make in class each day. My students will be able to use the rhythm and counting skills that we have worked to develop. We will perform rhythms, compose and create our own rhythm patterns, make cultural connections, and gain valuable experience performing for a crowd- all while jumping, dancing, bending, crossing, kicking, banging and having a blast! It also provides essential ‘Brain Fitness’ components such as: fine motor skills, coordination, reflexes, cross lateral movement, bilateral movement, spatial awareness, eye hand coordination.
The balls will be used to complete cardio routines (both preset and student invented) all while creating music and movement simultaneously.
The use of cardio drumming in children has been shown to: decrease behavioral issues; improve concentration and attention span; optimize the student’s ability to learn; regulate emotions, improve motivation; increase performance in the classroom and create a sense of well-being and excitement in the school.
These materials will also provide an opportunity for students to be more human and more of themselves as they connect to their natural tendencies to move, dance and create music!
