My students need the PlayStation 4 with Little Big Planet 3 and the Disney Infinity and related books to continue to guide their own learning through passion based exploration.

This quote captures my desire to excite students about learning and becoming true stakeholders in the learning process. This project will provide that opportunity by offering great options for exploration.
My students are 8th graders who have selected to take the Video Game Design and Development elective at our middle school.
I teach a variety of students and their approaches to learning vary greatly. My goal is to reach students by providing choice in learning through opportunities to explore a variety of tools. All activities lead to the learning outcomes related to design thinking, computer science skills, iterative design, creativity, and 21st century skills.
My Project
My students are involved in a 20% time / genius hour project intended to empower them in the learning process. Students choose a project based on an area of interest and passion. My goal has been to bring in exciting resources and the items in this project will certainly add to that! Currently, students are using products like the Xbox One with Project Spark, raspberry pi, makeymakey, and the original Disney infinity. These items were received thanks to a previous donors choose grant. As the studio environment evolves I am excited to add resources like the Play Station 4 with Little Big Planet, a wonderful game building tool with an active community. My students will also be continuing to create content to share and we will continue to share out videos, and tutorials created by the students as a means for them to teach others and demonstrate their learning.
Choice based learning provides a unique opportunity for students to take charge of their learning and discover authentic areas of interest.
This project will excite students about learning and allow them to produce original content which is extremely rewarding as it is being consumed by an authentic audience.
