Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our library is a busy hub that even attracts students before school each morning. Our collection needs updating, particularly with regard to our science titles, but my entire budget for books depends on fund-raising done by the PTO—and we currently have no P(Parent Teacher Organization).
We're a Title One school with a majority of our 650 students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
Many of our K-6th grade students come from homes where there's no money for essentials, let alone books. These kids want to learn about the world around them and constantly ask for new books. They need up-to-date science titles about various topics to help them be successful.
My Project
Our school was fortunate to just receive Chromebooks and wireless Internet, but we have no ebooks and no budget to purchase them. Having a range of science Let's Find Out! ebooks that can be accessed by multiple students at the same time will allow teachers to plan science lessons that are engaging and exciting, while at the same time helping our students learn how to use technology.
Having access to multiple-use ebooks also means every student who wants to read a particular book can do so without having to wait for another student to finish the book they want.
It also means that teachers can do collaborative planning within their grade level. Ebooks can't get damaged or torn, so they will always be available, which makes them a good investment.
