Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Makers dream big, take risks, explore options, imagine new possibilities, show courage, express creativity, and embrace challenge." -Krissy Venosdale
I want my students to dream, create, and invent, and what better place to start than in our own classroom makerspace!
My students are creative, bright individuals who come from various backgrounds.
They are predominantly from low-income families. The majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch; therefore, some are unable to afford their own basic school supplies.
My Project
A makerspace provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build, and invent as they engage in STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art, and math. As we develop our makerspace, we hope to have a variety of supplies to create something unique that has never been seen before. With the duct tape, students will be able to make beautiful and useful accessories such as wallets, bracelets, or even purses. The K'nex and Lego building sets give students an opportunity to design and "think outside the box."
By donating to my project, my students will learn and practice early engineering, problem solving skills, and cooperation through play and building.
In addition, K'nex and LEGOs will give them a better sense of building and will help increase their imagination.
