The past few weeks have been uncomfortably difficult trying to teach my students without access to a document camera, projector, and magnetic removable whiteboard. For example, when completing a diagramming sentence activity, my students are unable to record notes due to the inability to see notes.
Our middle school is located in a rural area of Virginia with active community involvement and phenomenal administrative support.
Our school has been ranked among the top middle schools in Virginia and has recently been recognized as a "Virginia School to Watch." I have the wonderful privilege of teaching an exceptionally talented and genuine group of eighth grade students within the special education program. While our school has an exceptional reputation and support system, obtaining technology equipment for instructional use is an extreme challenge.
My Project
Because our classroom does not have whiteboards or technology equipment, students struggle to follow instruction. The use of a blackboard is not an option in my classroom due to the allergens and dust that are created when using chalk. With the donation of these materials, my students will be able to access the full instructional curriculum, as well have access to the same opportunities as their school aged peers. These materials will allow me, as the teacher to step up the instructional quality of the academic curriculum and engage my students using a variety of learning styles. Having access to a document camera, projector, and magnetic removable whiteboard will allow my students an opportunity to take notes, follow instructions, access videos, presentations, and live demonstrations. Trying to follow the teacher when learning to diagram sentences is extremely difficult when a student cannot actually see the sentence they are attempting to diagram. Donor's Choose!
