My students need (1) Human Torso Model, (4) Teaching Stethoscopes, (1) Literacy Enhancement Nutrition Kit, (1) Stopwatch - Pack of 5, and (2) Fiberglass Tape Measures.
We are constantly reminded in our culture about the benefits of maintaining a healthy, balanced, and well-portioned diet. Unfortunately, for some of my students and their families the choice between a healthy diet and one of necessity often is an economic one.
My school is a one-of-a-kind tuition-free public charter high school designed for high school dropouts to earn a diploma and focus on areas they are truly passionate about.
Students learn all the fundamentals like math, science, and history, but also are taught exiting subjects such as digital design, web page design, and more. Students graduate with a diploma and the foundation for college and an exciting career.
My Project
The perception that health comes with a premium price tag is incorrect. Students will learn during this class project how to more effectively manage their personal diets. They will learn how and why taking greater responsibility for maintaining their daily activity levels, consuming quality foods, and minimizing unhealthy life choices can have dramatic effects on their well-being. Students will seek to become health ambassadors to their families; informing those around them of our bodies need to consume different nutrients, understanding how those nutrients are absorbed in our bodies, and why maintaining homeostasis is so vital for our overall health.
I am requesting the following materials for my students; a teaching stethoscope, stop watches, measuring tape, a model of a human torso that shows internal structures and systems, and additional literacy materials on nutrition.
According to a study by the American School Health Association (ASHA), students who had consistently insufficient protein intake scored lower on achievement tests than their class mates who had adequate nutrition.
In addition, the study found that students with chronic iron deficiency were more likely to suffer from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Giving students the knowledge to make better personal health and fitness choices is essential to helping them maintain their bodies.
