My students need DSLR cameras to learn the art of digital photography, graphic arts, journalism, 21st century tech tools, photo composition and editing.
Students will collaborate on a daily basis. They will work on yearbook layouts, photo journalism, composition, editing work and pictures.
With the equipment they will learn proper terminology and use of the cameras. My hope is that some will develop the interest in digital journalism.
The students are motivated to learn, energetic and excited to learn this curriculum.
This is the first year this class has been taught and there is a wait list to get in the class. They are 8th graders, our "seniors" of middle school. Our school is always looking to find new avenues of learning for our students. By creating this class, we are tapping into the creative talents of the students. They will be learning to collaborate and co-exist with varying personalities and thought processes. Students will research, take charge of the project and then put details into print in the form of the annual yearbook. Students will also learn marketing, advertising skills and budgeting practices.
Students will be exposed to journalism, digital photography, digital journalism and business practices which in turn opens their eyes to a variety of career options.
My Project
Students will use the cameras to learn how to properly take photos, edit the photos, use the correct lighting, aperture, cropping, subject positioning, center of interest, candid photos, framing. Students will also learn the different parts of the camera and how to care for and use them correctly.
Students will be to use the cameras for cross-curricular activities such as creating picture puzzles, perspectives, science aspects, alphabet photography just to name a few.
Students will have hands on experience in the classroom.
Cameras will allow the yearbook to be student made which allows for creativity and will allow the yearbook to improve and move to the next level. Students will have pride in their work and increase school spirit.
