"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." ~John Dewey. We would like to embrace 21st century learning in our classroom but we need your help.
These 25 enthusiastic, busy and playful first graders come from a high poverty community where access to technology is very limited.
Like all children, they love to play and research shows that playful active learning leads to higher level thinking and greater cognitive development. Many of my students are below grade level in reading and math. They need extra opportunities for review and practice. They need opportunities that support their visual and auditory learning styles. They need opportunities that keep them engaged while their teacher is working with other learners.
My Project
With the 4 iPad minis and their protective cases, my students will be engaged in playful, hands-on, 21st century learning during small reading and math group times. Through games and other app content, my students can strengthen their sight word vocabulary, practice their spelling, hone their math fact fluency, and much more. These iPads will allow me as their teacher to customize learning and meet the needs of each of my students.
Students will remember their lessons and learning when these ideas are brought to life through technology.
Please consider giving to this project and bringing 21st century learning to children who otherwise have no access to our digital world.
