Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of students in the art classes come from computer-less homes. I am trying this year to incorporate the art classes with Common Corestandards, and teaching them how to use technology with art. With an iPad they will be able to photograph their art, upload and write artist statements for each art.
The students at this school are mostly from homes without computers.
85% are eligible for free lunches. They are healthy and eager to learn in a creative class where they have not failed over and over. Their minds can be opened to learning through technology, giving them skills to compete in this technological world.
They are hungry to learn once shown how they can be successful in art and with technology. Students are all sizes, color but they are all fresh, new and the future. Tapping into their creativity, exploring themselves and their potential is my goal for them in the art room.
I have students that don't speak English, students that have just been in the United States for a couple of weeks, students with anger management problems, quiet students, loud students and just regular students. They all need to be engaged in their learning and an iPad to photograph their own art would be exciting for them to learn how to do this.
My Project
A work station will be set up for students to photograph their art with the iPad and upload to Artsonia, a student web museum, and provide a statement about each art piece they upload. They will learn how to operate an iPad, how to upload art to their digital portfolio and then how to use an iPad to write a statement about their art.
This year Artsonia, a student web museum, has a student version for them to upload their work to and write about it.
One iPad will get the art class started using technology in art. I hope this is the first of many iPads in the art room, hoping eventually to have a class set. It is frustrating for me to have this education in using art and iPads in the classroom and no iPads. Art is not a priority and really underestimated in public schools.
Having an iPad in the art room will make a difference.
Students will learn how to use technology. Students will learn the creative potential of technology as well. Many are discouraged with their potential to be successful at school and being successful in the art room goes a long way with them feeling they can succeed when they try something.
