My Students

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has," Margaret Mead. I encourage my students to explore a variety of interests to find their passion and explore through projects, communication, and perseverance.

My students are motivated and love learning!

They accept challenges with joy and push their thinking on a regular basis. My students are empowered try new things and take risks. They are excited to take their learning beyond the classroom and connect with others in the community or world. Our school is pushing boundaries in public school education and trying new ways of learning. We look at Bloom's Taxonomy often to think about our lessons and projects. We believe that the highest level of learning is when students can understand content deeply and create projects to show what they know. In turn, the students are often teaching the adults and we are constantly amazed!

My Project

Our staff constantly talks about our student population and how we can encourage our students to explore and create. We think that a MakerSpace would be a great opportunity for all our students. The space would be filled with gadgets and tools to allow students to play and tinker. Thus, through exploration students would design, engineer and fabricate various electronics. This idea also connects to an existing Circuits and Pathways unit, mandated by our district. Students will be able to apply previous knowledge and extend their learning through this space. Through the projects students would practice skills and apply knowledge but also reflect and persevere.

These materials will make a difference because they will allow students to play and tinker with electronics in a safe way.

Students will continue to be self-directed learners and know that the possibilities are endless. They will be inspired to take their learning places, home or around the world.
