This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to move. Even in visual arts, we are constantly finding new ways to move and create art. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to learn.

My second grade students are creative and outgoing students that crave new experiences.

The mission of our arts program is "Ensuring Success through the Arts: Every Day, Every Child, Every Chance." Our school is a Title One school serving 528 Pre-K through 2nd grade students in rural South Carolina. Many of our students have never been to an auditorium and have never seen a dance production. There are little to no opportunities for dance in our town unless your family can pay for lessons. Our school strives to give our students every opportunity and experience that we can.

My Project

Our students will be able to travel to the Columbia City Ballet to experience Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green: Kids for Kids. In this production, the Gullah style paintings of South Carolina artist Jonathan Green are brought to life through dance. This production is coordinated to Common Core Standards and uses STEM strategies to connect dance and lessons my students are learning in the regular classroom.

Donations to this project will help my students have an experience of a lifetime.

Most of my students have never been to a live production or even left our small town. This field trip will give them the opportunity to see a quality ballet production and learn about the artwork of Jonathan Green.
