Where is your favorite place to read? Do you enjoy finding a comfortable spot to sit down with a great book? I hope to provide such a spot so my students really find reading enjoyable.
My students are a diverse set of kids within a school where many cultures are present.
They are a great group of second graders who are eager to learn. They are learning in both English and Spanish and are on their way to becoming biliterate citizens. They are ready to continue their learning!
My Project
I would like to provide my students a more comfortable place to enjoy their reading. Right now they either read at their table spots or can sit on a thin rug. With these three vinyl Bean bag chairs students will be able to curl up next to a good book and make reading a truly enjoyable experience. Students are asked to read independently every day in order to better themselves as readers and will be able to use the bean bag chairs to help them lose themselves in a book.
Reading is a fundamental skill we teach and ask students to learn and practice.
It is my hope that with these bean bag chairs that students look forward to their independent reading time rather than see it as just something their teacher is asking them to do. Because it is one thing if students can read, but it is another if they enjoy it. And if students enjoy it, they will be more engaged with their reading. And the more engaged they are, the more gains they will make.
