My students need EasyLinks, Logger Pro 3 and Forensics with Vernier for Forensic Science laboratory activities and to connect the materials we already have to our computers and learn basic computer programming.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for reading our project! “Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you want to pursue a career in the 21st century, basic computer programming is an essential skill to learn" by Stephen Hawking describes what must be done for students to compete in a global marketplace.
My students love to do labs and work with computers in Forensic Science class because it allows them to solve authentic problems but the materials needed cost more money than our high poverty school can afford.
We have done the Hour of Code but students wanted to learn so much more than one hour can provide. My students need a complete unit to include Forensic Lab activities as well as computer coding lessons which will allow students to use computer skills to be ready for college and careers.
Young people from low socioeconomic areas usually go on to low paying jobs, continuing the cycle of poverty, with many ending up in the prison system. Education and career training with emphasis on computer skills can help break this cycle of poverty.
My Project
My CSI Cyber project will allow students to do laboratory activities and to work with real life application of computer programming in their forensic science class. Cyber Forensics is a new branch of forensic science that includes the application of investigation and analysis techniques to gather and preserve evidence from crimes involving computers. Students get excited about doing labs and learn math and programming because it is part of the lab.
This project will have students performing laboratory activities, download data onto computers and use computer programs to analyze the data. Students can also edit the lab software using computer code to personalize their work. Students can then use their programming skills to create an 'app' that will analyze this data for them. This unit will also have students do lessons that teach basic computer programming and how to identify changes in programs. The unit will also show how forensic science incorporates the field of computer science.
CSI Cyber has students performing lab activities and basic computer programming in forensic science.
This will give my high poverty students a chance to learn concepts that will prepare them for college and careers-something so very needed in our community. They will learn skills such as graphing, math formulas and measuring skills that can be transferred to other applications that allow students compete in a global economy and become vital members of their community and reinvest in the future.
