Philip Green stated "Good, bad or indifferent, if you are not investing in new technology, you are going to be left behind." Computers are powerful resources. When meshed with the curriculum, it can bring expectations to new heights! Without them, our students will indeed pay the price.
Our Pre K-5th grade school is one of the elementary schools in our area.
We have almost 550 students here. I am a 2nd grade teacher who has taught other grade levels in the past before settling in 2nd grade. Our teachers and staff engage our students in powerful ways and our students do enjoy the learning environment. The children truly embrace technology at our school.
My Project
As a teacher who has an avid interest in classroom technology, I have seen changes in how our schools manage with classroom computer set ups. Without a doubt, anyone can say with confidence that our children are now tech savvy by the time they enter school. By the time they leave Pre K, they have been exposed to computers and centers and by 2nd grade, they have pretty much mastered the use of a computer in an effective way. We all use computer centers at our school daily. When one goes out or crashes, it affects the classroom system we have in place. Recently, I was told I have three XP systems that can't be upgraded and replaced. So, my little second graders and I are "crossing our fingers for a new computer!" My students use our computer centers daily with all subjects. (Reading. Math, Science and Social Studies.) Though three would be absolutely awesome, I would happily settle for one new one to begin getting our computer centers back in sync with my 2nd graders.
Educators know all too well how essential computers have become in the classroom.
With computers which can't be updated or replaced, I could use help with the purchase of a new computer. Would you please consider helping my class with this project? Our little fingers are definitely crossed!
