Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Twenty-first century classrooms are more focused on collaboration and communication. Our classroom has just become a 1:1 classroom this year. Help us add these kits to our collection to foster these important traits!
I teach in a rural community.
Our school is full of wonderful students, most of whom don't have access to digital tools at home. Many of our students qualify for free and reduced lunches. The past few years we have had the wonderful opportunity to receive many Chromebook carts in our district. Using the SAMR model, our teachers and trying to go beyond the basic word processing. These kits will be one of the ways we will be able to do just that.
My Project
A Makey-Makey kit allows students to program anything into a key on a keyboard. The possibilities are endless and foster the use of imagination and creativity. Not only does it encourage the student to learn computer programming, it also encourages collaboration. These are all qualities that are essential in the Common Core standards and especially needed in today's real-world applications.
Donations to my project will impact my students by increasing student motivation to collaborate, discuss and invent.
Other classroom teachers will also benefit by seeing the student impact of the kits in classrooms.
