My students are eager and ready to increase collaboration and creativity. We want to connect our classroom with others through blogging, sharing our knowledge through apps such as Toontastic, keeping eportfolios using SeeSaw, and collaborating through writing with Google Apps.
I understand the importance of educating my students to be prepared for the 21st century.
I want to increase my students' skills in collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication through technology. Our school is a small public school located in a beautiful mountain region. The school lacks funds for technology in individual classrooms and students need to learn how to communicate and collaborate using technology throughout the school day by connecting with the outside world.
All the classrooms at our school are multi-age. Our room is a group of 3rd/4th graders. This is the perfect age to increase skills in order to be global citizens.
My Project
We will begin by learning how to communicate and collaborate by using Google Docs. Students will work on 3-5 paragraph essays, share them with peers, peer edit, and share with others once published.
We will use the camera for daily photo journals and share on our classroom web site. This way we will connect to families and the community. Students will be in charge of weekly blog updates to inform parents of classroom activities.
Students will record their favorite projects and work on "SeeSaw" - an online eportfolio shared with parents. As a teacher, I will be able to record special lessons in math to upload to our class website for further review at home.
We will use various apps such as Toontastic to share understanding of history and science topics with families, the community, and the world via our classroom web site. This will reinforce skills and allow students to publish and share with others.
This will improve the classroom in many ways.
It will help engage students by introducing them to technology that they have not used in class before. It will help them publish and share material with others, making it relevant to the real world. Students will increase in writing and communication skills. This will help language development. Finally, by using iPads in groups, they will also improve collaboration skills.
