Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eagerly beginning to read and write. They love to tell their stories, and are developing the technical skills to type and illustrate their narrative.

My students are part of low socioeconomic immigrant families.

Even though they have limited access to technology, they thrive on it. Our school is developing our technology infrastructure. Although my kids have weekly access to the computer lab, having two iPads in the classroom would go a long way to make writing part of their everyday learning. It would also be a fun way to reward and stimulate their creativity.

My Project

My students' writing level is progressing from pictographs to actual sentences and paragraphs. iPads allow the flexibility of using whatever resources they have, whatever structures they know and then moving them forward to the next level. Students look forward to the creative process and take ownership of their stories.

iPads allow students to write at whatever level they may be.

If they are writing, they can either use their fingers to form words or actually use a keyboard. If they are still using drawings, they can combine drawings and letters. The most advanced and creative may take pictures to illustrate their narratives. iPads in the classroom would motivate my students tremendously at this early stage in their academic growth as learners and writers.
