My Students

In my Kindergarten classroom our goal is to have fun growing smarter, stronger, kinder, and better. My students needs your help bringing resources such as paint, crafty scissors, buzzers, and magnetic blocks to use while working on Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies standards.

My Kindergarten students are active and wide-eyed blank slates.

The learners in my classroom are a combination of general and special education students. They are full of smiles, giggles, wiggles, hugs, and a fierce drive to learn. We are a high poverty school where most of my learners come to school from socio-economically disadvantaged homes. Many of the academic and social experiences they will have in Kindergarten will be brand new to them. I am honored to expose them to an engaging world of endless learning and exploration opportunities. Our classroom will be a place of structure, routines, boundaries, love, and high expectations where every child will experience success in a fun and engaging way that is developmentally appropriate.

My Project

Illinois has adopted the Common Core State Standards. Kindergartners are now working toward proficiency on skills that were previously taught in later grades. Even though rigorous standards have taken over our Kindergarten classrooms there is still incredible value and importance in providing age appropriate learning tools and activities. Using craft scissors and bingo dabbers (dot paint) to create a piece of art connected to a story or writing piece is a great way to keep learning novel as well as developmentally appropriate and still aligned to standards. Using the magnetic blocks is an engaging and hands-on way to dig into math and engineering. Providing tools such as blocks and art supplies encourages learners to think and work creatively by using their hands to create, construct, and explore. The added bonus of these requested materials, the buzzers too, is that they encourage development of fine motor skills by strengthening and improving the muscles in their hands and fingers.

As a Kindergarten teacher I have the responsibility to help my students grow smarter, stronger, kinder, and better.

A donation to this project will help provide art supplies and blocks to help my students enjoy working toward proficiency of the rigorous Common Core Standards. Developing a love for learning starts at an early age and I truly believe giving them fun materials bingo dabbers, crafty scissors, and magnetic blocks will encourage a love for life long learning.
