In class they get to work together to produce videos ranging from anti-bullying PSA's to student written, shot, acted, and edited short movies. For our students to get a better experience we need additional cameras so the groups are not as large, now the groups have to be 8 students per camera.
Our student population is very diverse.
We have students that live at the homeless shelter and students with a high household income. We have students from all races and learning levels. They are hard workers that reach out and help the community through service learning projects that they complete each year that helps fill any need in the surrounding area. Our students also work with other communities throughout the world. Last year our students ran a fundraiser that supported schools in Africa.
My Project
With the extra cameras they students will be able to get more hands on work in the classroom. Right now we have very large groups for projects based on the lack of cameras. In the average class there are 8 students per camera. If the new cameras are purchased we can make smaller groups which will allow for all the students to get the hands on experience and learning they need. The students will create anti-bullying PSA's, informational videos to help other students, videos based on short stories, and much more. These video projects teach the students to work together, solve problems, how to be creative, and it improves public speaking skills. For some students math or science isn't their best subjects and they get frustrated. A lot of times when they come to my class they are the ones who excel and become leaders when they normally would not participate.
There are some students who believe they cannot excel in school and become frustrated or aggravated.
In my class those walls get knocked down and all students can create wonderful videos that express who they are. I love seeing the looks on the students faces when we watch the completed projects and a groups has really excelled or done something different. They are learning how to communicate in new ways and it will help them in all their other classes and in real life.
