Just recently my fourth grade students had the opportunity to meet Newbery-award winning author, Kate DiCamillo. To say they were excited would be a gross understatement! Throughout the rest of the day and week, all they can talk about is her and her books!
These fourth graders are book-loving, avid-readers, especially now after meeting one of their favorite authors.
Ever since our author study of Kate DiCamillo, and meeting her in person, I cannot keep enough of her books on the shelves. With over 85% poverty in our school, many of my students only have access to books through our school library. One connection that hit home with my students is that DiCamillo was "just like them" when she was growing up in a single-parent home.
My Project
The materials in this request are books written by Kate DiCamillo herself. There are also books that were recommended by DiCamillo at the author event that my students have shown an interest in reading. These materials will foster a love of reading literature by Kate DiCamillo, while also expanding their horizons with other authors that were recommended by her. With multiple copies requested, students will be able to check out these library books without having to wait as long for a hold.
Please consider donating to this project to keep my students reading voraciously from one of their most-beloved authors!
You can help keep them connected with this famous author and keep reading a central focus at our school!
