"To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." (Emerson) Having these laptops in our classroom would help everyone (students, parents and myself) to breathe easier by creating opportunities to increase productivity and enhance communication.
This will be my ninth school year teaching 4th grade, but my first year teaching gifted students.
I'm excited about this new challenge about my keeping up with the high level of enthusiasm and curiosity that I'll no doubt be met with on a daily basis. Our school is in a rural setting with large class size (between 24 and 29 students most years).
My Project
My goal is to facilitate an efficient cooperative learning environment. Having laptops allows for a high level of engagement in instructional activities for students working independently or with a partner while I work with other groups of students.
I recently completed Google Ambassador training and would like to consistently have the technology available to support a true Google classroom, where students can research, create, and share on these laptops. The laptops will be used for language arts, math, science and social studies.
Right now, I have four desktop computers available for student use.
They are several years old and don't always work consistently. Our school does have recently updated wireless Internet, so having this hardware is the only missing piece to having a truly technologically integrated classroom. Being able to work and learn on these laptops will keep students more engaged. It will also allow their parents a better look into what they're doing at school, which is such an important connection.
