Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It's amazing what a little bit of choice can do! My students are so much more productive when they are able to choose comfy seats for themselves.

I teach third grade at a small town Arizona school.

My school has been recognized for having consistently high expectations for student achievement. My students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. They are enthusiastic learners who relish opportunities to work on individual goals.

My Project

My students will use the cushions and bean bag chairs during our "Daily 5" language arts block. This time is set aside for students to work in small groups with the teacher. Students are also able to select independent activities, such as silent reading and journal writing during this time. I anticipate that these alternative seats will be highly sought after.

These materials are well beyond the modest budget allotted to classroom furnishings. They will make a huge difference in the overall comfort level of my classroom. I want my students to know that I respect their ability to make good choices for themselves and that I value their physical comfort. These bean bags and cushions are an excellent step in the right direction.
