Cooking in the Classroom

My students need a greenhouse to start seeds for our school garden. They also need activities to learn about nutrition for healthy eating, including a Food Group Magnetic tabletop pocket chart.

My Students

Have you ever had the opportunity to grow your own food? Help us put our gardening skills to work. Healthy gardening + healthy cooking = healthy hearts and minds. My students are motivated to learn about and care for a vegetable garden so the harvest can be used in healthy recipes.

My students attend a high poverty, elementary school in the state of Florida.

They are a culturally diverse group. They are inquisitive children, who like to learn about gardening and healthy eating. My students will take on the responsibility of educating their peers about nutrition.

My Project

The greenhouse will help my students start plants from seed. Then they will transplant them into our school garden. Once we harvest, we will make healthy foods to eat and enjoy. My hope is that they take the love of healthy eating home with them. The interactive games and activities will help them develop an understanding of nutrition.

This project will have a positive impact on my students by promoting healthy eating and gardening.
