My students need 25 subscriptions to Scholastic Action magazine (a class set) in order to master the Common Core and get up to their reading level for college and career readiness.

My Students

"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." - Frederick Douglass, my students are working hard to feel and understand this freedom everyday. Scholastic Action Magazine will be an integral part in bringing their reading up to grade level for my struggling readers.

My students are at the beginning of their dreams of a future but face academic and family struggles each day.

My students are curious and eager to know more about the world around them even though they don't know much beyond their own community. Our school is in a rural farming community of Louisiana where most of my students live below the median income level and live in rental properties with a single parent or guardian

My Project

With Scholastic Action Magazine, my students will be able to experience the world beyond. It will help inspire them to reach their dreams of the future by conquering the common core skills that will have them college or career ready in the future. Through high interest stories relevant to today's events, students will learn those common core skills more effectively and more easily.

These magazines will be used by over 60 students this year.

Also, the magazines can be used year after year thus reaching over hundreds of students to experience success in reading through these high interest nonfiction articles
