My students need comic relief with books, such as Aldo Zelnick Comic Novels, CATegorical Series and Andrew Lost Series to enhance vocabulary and literacy skills.
"Laughter is the language of the soul" (Pablo Neruda). In my classroom, we are serious about learning but we find time to laugh every day. As an educator, my goal is to instill of love of learning in my amazing third graders. Providing comic relief through books is a great way to achieve my goal.
My amazing third graders attend school in a large urban district.
Due to limited funding, resources are scarce. Our equipment is outdated and dilapidated. Many of the children also come from economically disadvantaged homes. Despite these economic and other hardships they face, attending school is a positive experience for them. Their curiosity and passion for learning is evident every day when they enter the classroom. They are creative thinkers who will make a difference in the future.
My Project
The materials requested will enhance vocabulary and literacy skills. Comics engage readers who learn visually, encourage reluctant readers to develop an appreciation for reading, open a reader's mind to new ways of storytelling, and increase their imagination, through the unique combination of text and pictures used to convey the story. The Andrew Lost Series combines science in the zany experiments of the main character. The Aldo Zelnick Comic Novels provide an amusing approach to enriching vocabulary through the farcical adventures of Aldo and his family. The CATegorical Series provide a lighthearted look at language to introduce the parts of speech and enhance vocabulary through rhyming verse and illustrations of comical cartoon cats. The books will be available for buddy reading or independent reading during our daily literacy block.
Your donations will help instill the love of learning and enhance the vocabulary and literacy skills of my amazing third graders.
We are serious about our learning, but we could use some Comic Relief!
