This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need to express themselves in new and exciting ways. They need to see the beauty around them. I want them to realize their true potential.

My 6th grade students come from families with limited means.

The Arts for many is something new and yet I have found a wealth of talent and creativity that is just waiting to be tapped. Our school has been recognized as being at the forefront in terms of its curriculum and its instruction. All of our students are provided with a rigorous project-based instruction aimed at their specific learning modality with the an emphasis on math, science, and the visual arts.

My Project

One of the emphasis's at our school is for all students to have a diverse and standards-based Arts program. My focus is for the students is to develop an appreciation of photography as an Art form. To that end, I was able to purchase 30 digital cameras through the generosity of friends, unfortunately the donated funds did not allow me to purchase printers with which to print their work. So while my students have shown an amazing eye for color and composition, we are unable to print their work and share with the overall community. That is, we are limited to viewing their work via computers as a slide show; which is simply not good enough nor practical. One goal of mine is for a school Art exhibit, while another is for the students to share their work with their families. So having the ability to print and frame their work in such a way as that seen by photographers is my priority. The printers I am requesting combined with the additional ink would allow me to meet these needs.

Art for many students will be their pathway to success and the means by which to express themselves.

Having color printers allows me to complete my goal of offering a 'complete' digital photography experience for all the 6th grade students at our school.
