Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Isn't it more enjoyable to see in color? I teach a fully included kindergarten class, which means there are students with special needs mainstreamed with regular education students in one classroom. My school is a high poverty school where a majority of our student body receive free or reduced lunch.

My co-teacher and I have purchased our own printer/copier/scanner to facilitate our instructional needs; however, ink is costly. Because of the age of our students and our type of class, visual aids are of the utmost importance.

In order to accommodate our students' visual learning styles we need to scan and print numerous materials (books we have read in class). Students are able to use scanned and printed puppets to retell a story. They can sequence a story using visual pictures from a story. For our special needs students, they can use the colorful scanned pictures to nonverbally answer given comprehension questions. Also, they can sort pictures with varying letter sounds. All of these hands on and visual activities are more pleasurable if in color!
