Help my students bounce through the year by funding exercise chairs that increase student focus and achievement!
My students are typical tweens and teens.
In seventh grade, they are developing both emotionally and physically. Seventh grade is a hard year full of learning, love, loss, and lastly, hormones. With so much going on developmentally, my students need as much help staying focused on education as possible.
I never knew that there was more than one way to sit in a student desk until I taught middle school. Indeed, some of the stunts I have seen rival the moves of international circus contortionists! In any given class, on any given day, you can look into my middle school classroom and find students attempting to slump, lean and hunch. With all of the new innovative ways to teach, the student desk has perhaps been the most neglected classroom item. My students' energy level ranges from Piglet to Pooh to Tigger to Roo. Old, cold, and hard, these desk provide little opportunity for movement which boosts student comprehension and time on-task.
My Project
All of my students can benefit from these chairs in my classroom. The use of these stability ball chairs will help students' posture and core strength. Just like the rest of our country, our middle school students don't get enough physical activity and suffer from the repercussions of a sedentary lifestyle. The stability ball chairs will give students the opportunity to move which will increase their attention span and time on-task. Lastly, I envision these chairs providing an outlet for my high-energy students, including my special education students with disabilities such as ADHD and Autism.
By funding this project, you will give students more opportunities for movement, which can increase students' attention and achievement.
Students will gain insight about how movement can encourage and enhance their active learning lifestyles.
