My Students

After last year's Hour of Code, we have many young students at our school who are enthusiastic about programming. I want to provide them with opportunities to think critically and logically, to work together and communicate their ideas, and to have fun learning.

I teach children ranging from four to seven.

The students at our Title I school are enthusiastic, energetic learners from a diverse community. They can't wait to get their hands on technology and try it out! Learning to code using these robots will give them a chance to see that they can have an effect on the technology they use - not just to play games, but to make them.

My Project

First and second grade students will use the Dash and Dot robots in an enrichment club to expand the coding experience our K-2 students had last year during the Hour of Code. They will learn more about systematic thinking and planning, logical step-by-step programming and problem solving. They will also have opportunities to work with other students and to discuss their ideas.

As our district moves forward with STEAM and Project Lead the Way, giving young children a chance to begin programming Dash & Dot in first and second grade will make them even more excited about the new innovations in science and engineering curriculum for elementary students.
