My students are very tech savvy and are ready for the bigger challenges of coding. These 2nd grade digital natives work together well and embrace learning new technology.
My second grade students love new challenges of all sorts.
They love problem solving and learning how what they learn in the classroom connects to our world. We know that we need students who will bloom into innovators and leaders. My students are ready and eager to learn and embrace the future. This class is made up of students who are diverse with talent abounding. What I love most, is that they celebrated their differences and seek multiple points of view!
My Project
Dot and Dash robots are programmable by using tablet applications. There are four different applications at varying levels for students to explore. Students will be able to start with basic coding but will have the opportunity to engage in higher levels as they learn. With these robots, I will create all sorts of interesting projects that involve not only STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) standards but also those with English Language Arts connections. I envision that my students will exceed my expectations and will create plans of their own. Documenting their learning and articulating their new skills will be a key part of their experience.
Helping bring Dot and Dash into my class will help me begin giving my students a firm foundation in coding.
It will provide a connection to science that has become essential to our society and has ignited a passion for creation. Robots may shape our future and I want my students to be in command and understand what they are all about!
