My students need chair pockets to keep their supplies handy, since we have no desks in our collaborative classroom. They also need a mobile white board for small groups.
"Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
I strive to ensure that every kid feels successful. We cultivate a family-like atmosphere as we learn and grow together.
The students from our school come from very diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Over 20 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students, and for many students, English is their second language. Many students come from low-income households, which brings challenges to their overall social and emotional health. As a school community, we come together to support the needs of the students and families in our school, and we never lower our expectations for success.
My Project
Collaborative learning, whereby every student's ideas are valued, is foundational to the classroom community. In order to provide a space for students to collaborate together, we replaced traditional desks with tables. We do a great deal of learning in small groups, and our classroom space needs to allow for flexible grouping and learning to take place. That being said, students will use the chair pockets to keep their supplies handy to minimize classroom transition times. This will elevate some organizational problems that they have been experiencing. Having a clean, organized, and well-used classroom space is key to creating an environment that is conducive to cooperative learning. We will make great use of the white board to use both as a learning tool for small group work, but also to act as a divider to provide even more flexibility in our classroom arrangement.
Any donation made to this project will help us to get one step closer to creating a classroom experience that goes beyond what most traditional classrooms are able to provide.
Learning in our classroom is a unique experience, and we really need these basic organizational materials to keep us focused on what matters most--learning!
