This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students at John F. Kennedy high school in California are being put to an extremely difficult challenge this year. In years past, the proficient rate on the CST (California Standards Test) for kids at my high school as been only 5%. Together, we are working to improve this number.

Kennedy high school are presented with challenges everyday inside and outside the classroom. My students are surrounded by violence in their community daily. Also, a majority of my students are speaking and learning in English, which is NOT their first language. Others are attempting to pass Algebra I for a second or third time so they can graduate high school. Either way, my students are facing serious challenges this year and they need your help. They need these materials so we can effectively and efficiently practice the math skills they are learning in the classroom. All my students want to be successful this year and you can help them achieve their goals!

My Project

My students need multiple items, including 24 Game Single and Double Digit Game Kits, Markers, Dry erase lapboards and a Rocketfish VGA adapter and chart paper, so we can more effectively and efficiently practice our Math skills together! By having white boards and white board markers, my students will be able to individually practice problems in class and I will be able to check their understanding of the material on an individual and class basis. The use of this activity alone will allow me to determine which students have grasped the concept of the day and which students need extra attention. Also, having a mac adapter will allow me to create and use interactive PowerPoint presentations to keep my class engaging for my students. The math game 24 will require my students to go above and beyond their usual ways of thinking. It will be a fun yet effective way for them to practice and master their fundamental mathematical skills. Lastly, using Mr. Sketch markers will allow us to engage in interactive activities!

Having these materials in our classroom will truly allow my students to gain the in class practice that they need to master the skills and objectives they are learning.
