Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Vivid, bright colors vs. black and white--which is more visually stimulating and engaging for children to learn from? Color, of course! Help us to turn our black and white into bright colors with a classroom color printer!
My fourth-grade students live in an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families.
Many of my students speak a language other than English at home. Despite the challenges that they face, the students in my school are consistently eager to learn and enthusiastic about new and exciting learning opportunities.
The fourth-grade students in my classroom represent a range of abilities and learning styles. Often an individual student or group of students require additional support, differentiated resources, or more practice with a skill or concept. All of my students benefit from visual aids--which I display around the classroom and provide individual copies of--for vocabulary words, literacy concepts, writing tips, math terms, etc. These posters and charts are much more effective when printed in bright, bold colors.
I need to be able to provide the resources and materials that each individual student needs in order to work to their potential.
My Project
The majority of printing and copying at my school is done off-site, requires a two-day turnaround, and is usually allowed only in black ink. There are frequently times that I need to print something on-demand. A classroom printer will allow me to print resources for students as they are needed. For example, in the middle of a math lesson I might determine that a group of students needs further practice with a skill--I would be able to print a work page for them. Or, a student might bring up a relevant current event during a discussion, and I would be able to print an article for the class to read and discuss.
A classroom printer will also allow my students to print work--research, a writing piece, etc.--that they are doing online via the Chromebooks we have received this year.
The color printer (and cardstock) will also allow me to create vivid, engaging visual aids for abstract concepts and vocabulary words to display in the classroom and for students to include in their notebooks
The Epson printer and ink will allow me to print resources for students as they are needed, create colorful visual aids, and print student work.
I will be able to provide each student with the materials they need to be successful.
