Due to the new federal Common Core Standards, students will be required to write argumentative essays. These type of essays require a lot of research in order to argue both sides. The printer in the classroom will be a huge help in this process.
I am a high school English teacher in a NYC public school.
They are wonderful, eager students who want to be ready for the advantages and challenges that college has to offer. Many of my students complete their work, but over the years I have the same reoccurring problems: they either don't have a working printer at home or they ran out of ink. This project will help alleviate this issue.
My Project
My students will be completing argumentative essays over the course of the year, which requires them to argue about a specific topic and discuss both sides. This requires a lot of research in a topic and many students are not used to digging deeply into a specific topic. My assignments will require my students to debate their ideas orally, as well as produce well-written, typed essays. The printer will aid in printing of the research in the classroom and the final papers.
Teachers in NYC lost Teacher Choice funding last year, and will receive a very small amount this year to help buy supplies for the classroom.
This donation will help me not only provide a wonderful service to my students, but allocate my financial resources to other supplies. My students will be thrilled to see this equipment in the classroom, and they will have full access to it.
