Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At a school with limited funding, there is no pencil sharpener in my classroom for my students to use and my students are not able to mark directly on texts since we can only afford to copy class sets of texts.

Situated in the inner city, the school that I teach at was in danger of being shut down due to its low test scores and high rate of violent incidences.

This year, the school has brought in an all new administration and my students are having an interesting time adjusting to the new rules and expectations.

My Project

Since my school is so underfunded, we are without such basics as pencil sharpeners. This means that, when one of my students needs to sharpen their pencil, they have to leave the classroom and go to the office to use the pencil sharpener. Having our own pencil sharpener would reduce distractions and increase the amount of time on task. Having Post-Its tags would help my students be able to annotate texts without having to write on them which is essential since we can only afford to make one class set. My students would also benefit from having access to pens to complete things like college applications and job applications.

Please help make it possible for students to keep their writing utensils in working order while in my classroom, for my students to be able to annotate their texts and for students to create posters to demonstrate mastery that can be hung around the room.
