Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember that first book that engaged you and brought you into the world of literature? Many of my students are still waiting for theirs.
I work in a Title 1 school in the urban part of a city in California, teaching sixth grade with energetic youngsters.
Many of my students have special ed needs and English Language development issues in my class. They are an excited group of kids, with a lot of energy that is just waiting to be tapped into educational adventures!
My Project
I have been using a one-size fits all solution when it comes to reading with my students. Reading a single class book, with a classroom that has a reading rate separation of 10 grades from lowest to highest student.
This project will allow me to create literature circles, where students are broken up into teams of students in similar reading levels. By challenging every student to read at the upper echelon of the reading skill, they are growing their literacy skills on so many levels.
The donations to this project will be used to increase students' reading levels By making my students engaged into literature and becoming literate citizens, it is making our world a better place.
