Chromebooks to Power Character + College + Career Potential
My students need a set of Chromebooks to discover, experience, and document their journeys in becoming college & career ready, as part of a character development program!
Every day, we are focused on growth.
Our goal is to graduate students who are confident and skilled scholars, fully prepared for the academic and personal challenges that lie ahead.
To do so, we ask four simple, but powerful questions: Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it? Who will I become?
Our small charter school serves a unique mixture of rural and suburban families, 40% or more of whom receive Free-and-Reduced services.
Many of our 400 students (5-12) have the chance to be the first in their family to attend a post-secondary institution, but lack the technology resources and stable Internet access at home to get the most out of their learning experiences.
As they continue developing their skills of leadership, self-awareness, community activism, and worldview, they are consistently documenting and reflecting on their unique experiences through Google Drive and Pathbrite, a résumé and portfolio program for education.
The evidence we have seen so far is truly remarkable. Our students are embracing their role as stakeholders in their own education and are realizing that their EMOTIONAL intelligence is just as important as their ACADEMIC intelligence, which enables their potential to explode!
My Project
The set of Chromebooks we are requesting is an essential component of achieving our goal to prepare students for college and career in the 21st Century.
The online documentation process for our unique character development component produces relevant evidence of their learning. The digital artifacts they create are not only a central element of the grade they earn, but can also be shown later to admission counselors and prospective employers as a 4-year capstone project.
But this technology won't just enhance the learning that our students will be doing; it is in itself a crucial learning experience. Without it, our students will not get the targeted exposure to the digital tools that are becoming a central component of the academic and professional environments that they will create.
As we work with organizations like Top 20 Training, Pathbrite, Academic Innovations, Overgrad, and BestPrep, students will see that we grow the more we connect and learn.
