Chromebooks For Innovators - Episode II: STEAM Rises

My students need 11 more Chromebooks and headphones to complete 1:1 initiative in my classroom, which will be used for all subject areas and for STEAM projects.

My Students

"We don't make excuses." "We make changes!" Everyday we start with this simple mantra. The world is changing & my students must change with it. The students received 12 Chromebooks from our first project, needing 11 more for 1:1. This allows for individualized learning and integration of STEAM.

With this project, students will have access to their own individual Chromebook every single day.

They will experience gains in all academic areas, through differentiated reading and math programs, collaborative science and socials studies activities, and student-directed passion projects. A new undertaking with the successful completion of this project will be the integration of STEAM, including the teaching of code through code.org. By using self-paced programs and personal headphones, students will learn the basic principles of coding. They will explore engineering through Build with Chrome. Additionally, being fully 1:1 will allow the students to further integrate arts to curriculum, whether it be by creating art on Google Draw/Canva, editing video projects on WeVideo, or exploring the classic works on Google Cultural Institute. I want my students to be ready for the future, and not to be restrained by the four walls in the classroom.

My Project

Imagine a traditional classroom. There are a finite amount of books, so each book can only be read by one student. With a Chromebook, multiple students can read the same ebook at the same time. Similar concepts apply in math - often times, the same worksheet is provided to all students. With individualized math programs such as IXL, ReflexMath, and MobyMax, students can work on their level. Can students build elaborate structures in a traditional classroom? No! But with Build with Chrome on Chromebooks they can. Little Alchemy is a fantastic way to practice scientific concepts and apply it in an immediate and interactive way. Students can use Google My Maps and Street View to explore the world. We can't take every student to every museum, but we can bring museums to the students through Chromebooks. The principles of STEAM can be more readily integrated into curriculum. Chromebooks provides equal access and individualized support to all students, regardless of background ability.

Donations provide Chromebooks to my students.

Chromebooks are not magical devices that will solve all problems, but they provide more opportunities to explore and interact with the world than before. Most, if not all, future jobs will depend on proficiency with STEAM. Without ensuring students have access from an early age, they run the risk of not being able to be as successful later in life as possible. Please consider supporting my students. They are the future - we must help them be ready.
