This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do not have access to computers and internet at home. When I tell them that I had a home computer in 8th grade, they say things such as "you're lucky, mister." They rely on the school to fulfill their technological needs.
My middle school is a title one school.
Most of my students live below the poverty level and some border on homelessness. School is a refuge for my students. Most middle schoolers relish the approach of summer, my students lament it. It provides only uncertainty for them.
My Project
It's amazing how my student marvel at computers in a day and age when technology is well established and readily accessible for most of us. My students are willing to do any assignment with a smile on their face if they are allowed to use technology.
With these computers I will be allowed to teach my students with multi-media, give real-time assessment feedback, and improve their technological literacy.
Every year, my students do a web design project that they update daily. They create their own website. It includes a personal blog and an academic blog. They follow current events as well.
In a world that is increasingly dependent on technology careers, these computers will give my students a chance at meeting the demand.
The more experience my students have with technology, the more likely they will have an opportunity in a largely growing sector in the global economy.
