My Students

A science teacher at Kentucky Country Day said after implementing the use of Chromebooks in his classroom, "All of a sudden we saw an explosion of student creativity," I want this type of experience for my students.

Our elementary is a Title One building.

We have children that come from every socio-economic status. The staff try to provide as many enrichment opportunities to our students so that all have the same foundation in education and technology through varied resources we have available at school that they might not have at home. Currently, I have four student computers in my classroom. The Technology Department in our district is not supporting them any further due to outdated technology. They are replacing these with a "building" set of Chromebooks that can be checked out. I am requesting these Chromebooks for the classroom so my children will have daily access.

My Project

Chromebooks essentially operate in the cloud, meaning that virtually all of their functions - such as word processing, emailing, Web browsing, photography and spreadsheet creation - are accessed via the Internet, precluding the need for a large hard drive or powerful processor. The following site is an example of applications that are available for students using Chromebooks: https://sites.google.com/a/lsr7.net/lsr7chromebookclassroom/classroom-resources/elementary

Chromebook Student Benefits: * Everything saves to the Cloud which means students have access to their Google account at h ome or anyplace they have internet access.

* Google Apps in Education suite of online programs allows students to work collaborative, communicating with others in and outside of their classroom and publish content to the web. * Chromebooks have apps, extensions and websites that are companions to the apps found on their iPads.
