Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are ELL struggling in a math and ELAR classes that are completely in English. I am trying to help them reach the 3rd grade level and guide them into the 4th grade one before the year ends. Students need all the supplemental help they can get. That's why we are requesting the centers.
100% of my students are at risk Hispanic students.
The low socio economical status of their families impacts directly in their learning process. Furthermore, the lack of their parents knowledge of the English language prevents them in helping their kids with homework or to study. Our school is a Vanguard school that also serves the community. Our campus believes that our students are scholars and I am working towards making it a reality.
My Project
These resources are going to help the students to develop their writing and comprehension skills in the second language (English). The use of these manipulatives helps to create hands on experiences in which the students scaffold their knowledge upon their experiences. Centers and project based learning are proven to develop the cognitive parts of the brain on the students. The math activity stations will help to reinforce the concepts learned in class with different activities. The calendar kit will help us practice our math during our morning routines. Word work and comprehension centers will help to extend their learning in a series of hands on activities. The informational text kit will boost nonfiction comprehension at just the right level! This kit includes activities for whole group, small groups, and all the materials needed for their implementations. They will help our kids to comprehend what they read better.

The materials requested in this project will scaffold their learning and will help in the acquisition of English. The goal for the project is to help the students to read, comprehend, write, and apply mathematical concepts properly at the end of the school year. It will make them ready to face the STAAR test and to go to the fourth grade.
