My students need 1 digital camcorder and tripod to produce daily news shows, documentaries, and commercials for our highly competitive county video awards.
At 6:55 am the pings of iMacs turning on signal the start of organized chaos that comes from twenty KG-8th grade students writing, directing, filming, and editing two daily news shows. 8:00 am starts the actual school day of students rotating into the class to create their own masterpieces.
Our students walk and ride buses or cars from five to fifty five minutes a day to reach our hands-on technology school founded over a decade ago.
We have all demographics from privileged to under privileged students fired up for learning with one end goal in mind, to become productive members of society. Whether choosing a tradition college path or a hands-on technology training work course, our students are motivated and working towards their goals. Many of our students spend their entire elementary life here exploring the different areas from art, band, technology, leadership, journalism, and video production. By the time our students reach middle school they have often found their niche, whether it is reading, technology, or the arts; the students are able to tailor their learning and classes with the end goal in mind.
My Project
I am requesting 1 digital camcorder and tripod to produce daily news shows, documentaries, and commercials for our highly competitive county video awards. While in video production, all students get hands-on training that will allow them to set up a camcorder, tripod, and microphones to film a segment for the school show. Being able to purchase up to date camcorders and tripods will allow more opportunities for students to produce their own segments. Many of the students leave here and continue the video programs in high school and some even choose careers that are part of the film industry.
The face of technology changes at a rate that keeps it impossible for schools to keep up.
We have found ourselves being victims of tape failures and lost footage due to the antiquated age of the equipment. By updating the cameras our students will be able to produce quality segments with clear pictures and amazing sound quality. There is nothing more discouraging to a student that spending hours capturing footage to have a deck eat the tape rendering the footage useless.
