My students need these calculators to help them prepare for the EOI. There calculators give an amazing color image on graphing that is much easier to understand concepts.
My classes are challenged to learn all aspects of Algebra II to prepare them for future math and the EOI. I want them all to be able to say that math is no longer hard for them. My favorite quote for school would be "You are the change you wish to see in the world".
My students are mostly juniors.
They have all had a couple years of math and most come in saying this is their least favorite class. I would describe them as blue collar kids. We have a large amount of our population on free and reduced lunch. My students seem energetic and outgoing. They all like to talk and sometimes I have to redirect. But all of my students seem respectful.
My Project
My students will use these calculators to study for my class and prepare for future tests, like the EOI, ACT and SAT. I think there are many students who will benefit from having a calculator such as this as a resource. So many students are visual learners and these calculators are the best of the best. I use these on multiple activities including bungee barbie to graph multiple lines in different colors so they may compare their data. I also use them when we factor so that students who struggle with that concept are not completely lost on any test.
I believe this project will make a difference for my students because it allows them to see things differently.
I also think that many of my students would not be able to afford this calculator had I made it a classroom supply. I know that each students learns differently and these may offer insight to those who are visual learners. It will also help cut down on work time for kids on tests and quizzes.
