My Students

Math in my class is messy- we measure, we cut and paste, we slide slips of papers down desks,and, most importantly, we think mathematically. Unfortunately, I don't have enough calculators for my students. The ones I do are a mixed bag- some don't do what others can. My kids need good calculators!

My middle school has 400 amazing students.

Most of my kids qualify for free/reduced lunch, so calculators rank low on the school supply list. That doesn't mean they don't try, though! Every day they show up and surprise me with their mathematical thinking. They show such logic and reasoning they work so hard.

My Project

My students will be able to take tests using the same calculator as everyone in the room- no one will have an advantage because they got the "good" calculator. Also, I will be able to teach my calculator functions without explaining where to find the buttons on several different models. The TI-30x is a great calculator to start students off because as they advance through calculus, most teachers require other Texas Instrument calculators.

Many of my students are already at a disadvantage.

My goal with this donorschoose project is to close that gap as much as I can. I need to level the playing field by providing quality learning materials. With a class set of calculators, I can ensure everyone gets the same quality math instruction.
