My Students

My students are eager to learn math and complete their math homework but most of my students do not own a calculator. We have 8 or 9 calculators left in our room that I have purchased for the class - the calculators I purchased are low quality and break easily. Students need to share for tests!

Our multi-age middle school is very diverse, representing many cultures, a variety of ethnicities, and learning abilities.

Over 60% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch (low income). Their families have more needs to supply so they do not often buy calculators fro their children.

My Project

Students will use these calculators to complete their math and science work in class and many will stay after school to get their homework done. Most importantly, I want to have a calculator for every student during a quiz or test. It is too noisy (and not very safe) to have students sharing a calculator during assessments.

Students will be able to complete their math work more quickly and with increased accuracy.

They may also use a calculator to check their math answers. Hopefully, with less time spent on calculations, students can engage in more discussions about their math learning.
