Mrs. S. from CA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

CalCPU: 3D Printing the Past for the Future

My students need a 3D printer for upcoming class projects including computer restoration and DIY tech wearables. My students will begin to work with 3D design.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world" - David Warlick. Granger Jr. High School is a growing STEM site that needs to include new tech in our classes.

Granger Jr.

High School has a 7th-9th grade student body. We are located in a low income community and are a Title 1 Certified school. Our students are eager learners and have proved themselves efficient in robotics and other Stem activities. In fact in 2014, Granger's robotics program was awarded the San Diego County Office of Education's STEM Champions.

My Project

We recently received a donation by the county of San Diego of old and recyclable computers. We at Granger have spent countless hours developing a program where students repair these old machines and either keep them or donate them to low income students. Unfortunately, some of the machines donated have missing parts that are no longer attainable, so we ask for a 3D printer in order to replace this parts. This is a great opportunity for students to begin their learning in 3D design, which ultimately will be applied in a real world class project. Lastly, this donation will be useful for future STEM projects we have planned.

The project, which we have called CalCPU, will make a difference in the school's community.

As a Title 1 school, Granger staff and students do the best to help each other. This program will aim to supply students with a working yet simple (basic word processing and web surfing) computer. We hope that this project will be successful and furthermore inspire other schools within our district.
