My Students

Do you remember going on your first interview? My students will have the opportunity to have real-life practice with this business writing unit. Through writing practice and actual interviews, my students will be afforded an edge over their competition when they go out into the work world.

My seniors are from a low-income district in rural NY.

Many of my students are planning on attending technical school, or are already attend our local BOCES. Many will be heading out into the work world upon graduation. Even those who will be attending college after commencement will need the skills from this unit. Business writing, resume writing, memo writing, addressing envelopes, filling in job applications, and a mock interviews will help all of them be more prepared and successful when faced with these tasks in life after high school. In today's terrible job market, students will need all the guidance they can find.

My Project

Many students do not have any idea as to how to go about applying for a job or even how to handle the college application processes and interviews. Through this unit on business writing, students will discover they will need professional resume/cover letter paper and envelopes to make their mock interviews as realistic as possible. They will practice writing real letters of request and complaint and actually send some of them. They will even be afforded the opportunity to practice writing memos, follow-up letters, thank you cards, and recommendation letters. All of these skills have been lost to many people in this very electronic world. In fact, many of my students do not even know how to properly address an envelope at all. Through this unit, my students will have the know how and practice to make them successful for the work world.

During this time of economic trouble, our country's young people need an edge to help land the job they want.

I want my students to stand out in the applicant pool. This unit will help them do that. From beautifully formatted resumes and cover letters to the formality of the interview, my students will know what to expect and they will know how to help themselves be successful in the future.
